2021 NFL draft: 5 interior offensive lineman who could interest Giants on Day 2
We know the Giants need to add a piece on the interior of the offensive line, and here are players they could target past Round 1

The New York Giants wasted little time in the 2021 offseason surrounding third-year quarterback Daniel Jones with weapons to maximize the previous year’s 31st-ranked offense (
in terms of yards and scoring). The signings of Kenny Golladay, John Ross, and Kyle Rudolph provide more reliable options than the giants had in 2020, with Ross bringing an explosive element to the squad. the addition of Devontae Booker gives the Giants a solid backup to Saquon Barkley.

New York Giants Draft Needs: A Tight End Now or a Later?

The Giants currently have eight tight ends listed on their roster. But if the board falls a certain way, might they consider adding another?

Draft Thoughts and Predictions

Card image cap

Draft Thoughts and Predictions
Sitting at #14 is exciting territory for us. It is a rare draft situation for our team. The last time we picked so high was in 2015. May this draft go as well as that one!
It is also fun because being at #14 puts a lot of variables in play as to who may or may not be available at our pick and the possibility of trading down and obtaining something of significance. Last year Trader Rick did great trading down in RD 1 but could only pick up a 4th and a 5th doing so.
It's a great time to be a Vikings fan! Sure, a 7-9 season but that was also when every single thing went as poorly as possible and after a confluence of misfortune. Tough schedule, terrible injuries, major opt out, age turnover en masse, ST meltdown, you name it.

Giants news, 4/17: Louis Riddick — “clock has kind of been sped up” for Giants
New York Giants headlines for Saturday
Dave Gettleman does not fare well here, with Gregg Rosenthal saying he is “out of step with the current NFL.”
PFF’s Anthony Treash believes wide receiver Jaylen Waddle would bring more value to the Giants than offensive lineman Rashawn Slater.
Jaylen Waddle would be a home run for the Giants here. After all, outside of quarterback, no position is more valuable at the NFL level than wide receiver.
Valentine’s View: I might choose Waddle over Slater here, especially if the plan would be to play Slater at guard. To be honest, I can see the case for both and could probably be talked into either. I disagree with Treash, though, about the value of the wide receiver position. I’m still a trenches guy — quarterback, blockers, pass rushers.

Rate my performance as Vikings' GM in the Niners Nation community mock draft - Year 4!

Greetings Daily Norseman!
In what may now loosely qualify as a draft season tradition, I once again took the reigns for the Vikings in the annual Niners Nation Community Mock Draft. Check out my previous efforts below:-
2018 - Billy Price is good, right?
2019 - Should've taken Terry...
2020 - when I got front paged (hint hint).
As always, it's a long draft with real people (all draft nerds, all 49ers fans) drafting for all 32 teams.
There are no trades allowed. Also I was running the whole exercise for the first time this year (it's actually still going ahead but I'm done drafting.) So those are my excuses if you don't like my haul - and you won't.

Orlando Brown Jr. Trade Chatter Is Back - Vikings Territory

Orlando Brown Jr. Trade Chatter Is Back
1 3 minutes read
For about two weeks, the trade hubbub for the Minnesota Vikings and Orlando Brown was only conducted via whisper — at least among fans.
General Manager Rick Spielman has no tried-and-true left tackle on the roster, although Ezra Cleveland could be moved back from right guard to left tackle if called upon. Cleveland could do so as he played left tackle at Boise State. Minnesota moved him to the RG spot in 2020 because, well, the existing guards on the roster dwelled in the cellar of offensive-lineman performance. And Cleveland played well — he tallied a 66.2

2021 NFL Mock Draft 2.0: 49ers pick Trey Lance - Sports Illustrated

Apr 13, 2021
Every year, colleagues Jenny Vrentas, Albert Breer and I battle it out for mock draft supremacy. Every year, I end up going first, which is all right with me. (Technically, Albert got a head start this year with his early iteration, but he’ll have another one the week of the draft.) First is sometimes preferred, as waiting too long gets you sucked into the misinformation spiral. Last is difficult because the consensus begins to come back around, though probably not in enough time to rescue a board that looks more like a tangled Jacob’s ladder by then.

NFC East roster reset: Cowboys the favorites with Dak Prescott back in the saddle?

Card image cap

Old team: Atlanta Falcons
The Cowboys' actual biggest addition was really a
retention in the form of Dak Prescott's four-year, $160 million deal. But if we're looking for outside additions, it's likely Neal, who comes to Dallas after injuries undercut his promise in Atlanta. He played safety for the Falcons -- making the Pro Bowl in 2017 -- but Neal's relocation to Dallas includes a position change to Will linebacker, joining the likes of Jaylon Smith and Leighton Vander Esch in a linebacking corps that needed depth and could use Neal's versatility in sub packages. It's far from the last addition the 'Boys need to make on the defensive side, but it's a good start.

Despite already signing wide receivers Kenny Golladay and John Ross, as well as tight end Kyle Rudolph, Kiper predicts New York Giants general manager Dave Gettleman will use the No. 11 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft to add another skill player for Jones to target: Alabama’s Jaylen Waddle. Here’s why.
This is an important season for quarterback

Waddle is the third wide receiver off Kiper’s board. He predicts LSU’s Ja’Marr Chase goes to the Detroit Lions at No. 7. Kiper has Alabama’s DeVonta Smith landing with the Carolina Panthers at No. 8.

Analysis: "[Signing Golladay] might take them out of the receiver class and into the corner class."
Pick: Rashawn Slater, OT, Northwestern
Analysis: "New York has to be thinking offense with this pick and general manager Dave Gettleman appears focused in free agency on adding to the skill positions, opening the door for another investment on a hog molly for the offensive line, especially with the departure of Kevin Zeitler."
Pick: Rashawn Slater, OL, Northwestern
Analysis: "The lineman with five position flexibility arrives in the Big Apple as a player that could fill a hole at center or guard."
Pick: Jaylen Waddle, WR, Alabama

That might sound confusing.
But first, the overall point: Just about every one of the Giants new players have picked jersey numbers, except for tight end Kyle Rudolph. And his reason for waiting might have to do with the part about these numbers potentially being temporary.
Sign up for Giants Extra:
The NFL reportedly might soon approve a rule change expanding what numbers players can pick, which has been restricted for a long time.
The change would allow running backs, tight ends and wide receivers to wear any number from one to 49 as well as 80–89. Defensive backs and linebackers can also wear numbers 1–49 if the rule change is approved.

Fact or Fiction: Breakout candidates for 2021 season

Copied!
In this series, the Giants.com crew is presented with four statements, and they must decide whether they are fact or fiction.
Safety Xavier McKinney is your breakout candidate for 2021.
John Schmeelk: Fiction - McKinney is a fine choice, but let's go with Andrew Thomas. It can take players, especially offensive linemen, a couple of years to figure out things in the NFL. We already saw how much better Thomas played after the bye last year and there is no reason to think there won't be a larger uptick in his play during his second season. Thomas allowed only four sacks and thirteen total pressures in his final six games (including a rough one vs. the Cards' Hassan Reddick) after allowing six sacks and 47 pressures in his first 10.

The NFL Draft is three weeks away, and the Giants are in position as one of the teams that’s hardest to predict who they will select in the first round.
They fall just outside the top 10 (No. 11) and what they do is entirely dictated by what sort of craziness happens ahead of them. Since the Giants are committed to Daniel Jones at quarterback, the more players that are drafted at that position, the better. That pushes down non-quarterbacks down the order, thus increasing their odds of drafting a high quality player.

2021 NFL Draft Prospects: Tight Ends

Copied!
In the leadup to the 2021 NFL Draft, Vikings.com is taking a position-by-position look at prospects who have garnered a range of attention from national outlets. The series will include rankings by those national outlets, stats and background information for multiple prospects. We'll also include comments that experts shared during interviews.
Vikings status at tight end
The Vikings tight ends room will be without a 10-season mainstay, as the team released Kyle Rudolph this offseason after a decade in Purple. Minnesota will now rely on Irv Smith, Jr., and Tyler Conklin as the top two options at that spot. The Vikings also have Brandon Dillon, who spent the past two seasons on the practice squad. Hale Hentges, who joined the Vikings in the final month of 2020, retired last week.

If Minnesota Vikings enthusiasts were discontented with the 2020 defensive line, the 2021 season is conflating a brand new rendition inside the defensive trenches.
The final piece [for now] to the wholesale refurbishment was vivified with a tweet.
HOUSTON. EXCITED TO GET TO WORK. YES LORD.
Johnson spent the pandemic season at the three-technique DT position for the Vikings. He was thrust into duty by the domino effect of Michael Pierce opting out because of the coronavirus. Johnson — ordinarily a DT2 type — shifted to 3DT1 as Shamar Stephen [the announced 3DT before Pierce opted out] moved over to nose tackle.

A long-time Minnesota Viking, Shamar Stephen, was released by the franchise in mid-March. He was scheduled to usurp around $5 million in contract money for 2021, but the Vikings targeted high-priced assets like Kyle Rudolph, Riley Reiff, and Dan Bailey for waivers (due to a condensed budget). Stephen could not escape general manager Rick Spielman’s cap finagling.
Stephen twisted in the open free agency market for about three weeks. On Tuesday, he was added as a depth piece for the Denver Broncos.

Why did the New York Giants gamble in NFL free agency? Losing was a factor

Card image cap

Not because they spent big. Giants oo-owners John Mara and Steve Tisch have done that before, and not so long ago -- see 2016, when New York signed defensive tackle Damon Harrison, pass-rusher Olivier Vernon and cornerback Janoris Jenkins.
But those 2016 signings served as a cautionary tale, because since making the playoffs at 11-5 that season, New York has fallen on hard times and all of those big-name additions were ex-Giants before the 2019 season ended.
And this year the massive financial commitments, which included $73 million fully guaranteed for five of their free agents, came with an added risk the Giants usually avoid: Injury.

Goff isn't the only former Rams player the Lions have acquired this offseason. First-year general manager Brad Holmes, who joined Detroit after serving as Rams director of college scouting, obtained defensive end Michael Brockers from Los Angeles in exchange for a 2023 seventh-round pick.
The Lions further bolstered their pass rush by re-signing defensive end Romeo Okwara to a lucrative three-year contract. Okwara had a breakout 2020 season for Detroit, registering a career-high 10 sacks.
The Lions lost two receivers in free agency, with Kenny Golladay signing with the Giants and Marvin Jones joining the Jaguars. They addressed the position by signing Breshad Perriman, a seventh-year pro whose father, Brett, played 10 NFL seasons as a receiver, including six with the Lions. They also inked former Raiders receiver Tyrell Williams, who missed the entire 2020 season with a shoulder injury.

Giants news, 4/7: Things we learned, hot seat, mock draft, more headlines
New York Giants news for Wednesday
Good morning,
New York Giants: They’re convinced they can make a huge leap in 2021.
The Giants handed out huge contracts to Leonard Williams ($21 million per year), Kenny Golladay ($18 million per year) and Adoree’ Jackson ($13 million per year).
They boxed themselves in a bit with the Williams deal. It was either have him play on the franchise tag again, pay up or risk losing him in free agency. Golladay has the upside to be a really good No. 1 wide receiver, but he’s coming off a season in which a hip injury sidelined him to five games.
