Beth GarrabrantTaylor Swift's The Tortured Poets Department had already broken many records on its way to what was a certain #1 debut on the Billboard 200 album chart.  Now it's accomplished that -- and racked up the highest sales week in nine years. The album takes the top spot on the chart with 2.61 million equivalent album units earned. That's the largest amount of equivalent album units since 2015, when Adele blasted in with 3.482 million units of her album 25.Of those 2.61 million units, 1.914 million copies came from traditional album sales, meaning digital downloads, CDs, vinyl and cassettes, as opposed to streaming. That gives Tortured Poets the third-largest sales week in the modern era, which Billboard dates to 1991, the beginning of electronic sales tracking. The only two albums that have sold more in a single week are Adele's 25, with 3.378 million, and *NSYNC's No Strings Attached, with 2.416 million. What's more, Taylor now ties Jay-Z for the solo artist with the most #1 albums on the Billboard 200 chart: Both have 14. Only The Beatles have more, with 19. Taylor responded to the massive numbers by writing on Instagram, "My mind is blown. I’m completely floored by the love you’ve shown this album. 2.6 million ARE YOU ACTUALLY SERIOUS?? Thank you for listening, streaming, and welcoming Tortured Poets into your life. Feeling completely overwhelmed. I was already so fired up to get back to the tour but you doing THIS?? May 9th can’t come soon enough."And speaking of the tour, on April 27, she and her boyfriend Travis Kelce attended Patrick Mahomes' Golf Classic charity gala, and while there, Travis announced that his "significant other" had decided to donate four tickets to the Eras Tour to be auctioned off. People reports that those tickets brought in $80,000.Copyright © 2024, ABC Audio. All rights reserved.

Gilbert Flores/Golden Globes 2024/Golden Globes 2024 via Getty ImagesNeil Tennant, the lead singer of U.K. duo Pet Shop Boys, must have some kind of social media death wish: At a London event on April 22, he publicly dissed Taylor Swift's songwriting ability.Tennant, who used to be a music journalist, took part in a live discussion Monday organized by the U.K.'s The Guardian. He said of Taylor, "I have listened to Taylor Swift’s album. ... Taylor Swift sort of fascinates me as a phenomenon because she’s so popular and I sort of quite like the whole thing. But then when I listen to the records, [bandmate Chris and I] both have the same feeling actually, for a phenomenon as big [her], where are the famous songs? What is Taylor Swift’s ‘Billie Jean’?”When someone at the event suggested "Shake It Off" is Taylor's "Billie Jean," Tennant asked, "Is it, though? No, ’cause I actually even know that’s the answer. ... But I listened to that the other day, and it’s not ‘Billie Jean.’ It’s not.""Melodically — she’s got a great voice, by the way, and the production’s beautiful ... but melodically it’s all ... sung one or two notes going up and down. But anyway, it’s a fascinating thing.”Tennant allowed that he likes the fact that Taylor's music "brings all these people together, even multigenerational," but added, "I just think that the one disappointing thing is the music. Not even, not the lyrics, the music.”If you're now wondering what some of Pet Shop Boys' famous songs are, their hits in the U.S. include "West End Girls," "Opportunities," "It's a Sin," "What Have I Done to Deserve This," a remake of Elvis Presley's "Always On My Mind" and "Domino Dancing." They're the most successful duo in U.K. chart history and have sold over 50 million records. Copyright © 2024, ABC Audio. All rights reserved.

Netflix/Ed AraquelOn Thursday, Netflix dropped all eight episodes of the supernatural series Dead Boy Detectives, based on the beloved comic series from The Sandman's Neil Gaiman.Edwin Payne (George Rexstrew) and Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri) are best friends — and as the title suggests, they're dead. However, as ghosts, they're tasked with solving paranormal mysteries. One of their allies in their quests is Tragic Mick, sort of the Q to the specter sleuths' James Bond. The actor who plays him, Michael Beach, says there's more to the eccentric character, however."He's a man who used to be a walrus, but because of some mystical thing — and it will come up in the show —he has been a human for 200 years," Beach says. "And he spent that time, all of that time trying to find potions and spells ... to turn him back into a walrus, because he misses living in the sea."Beach explains, "He's developed this shop where people can come and get potions and spells to help themselves out of whatever. So, the two main characters, the dead boys, they often come to him because they are trying to help other dead people move on to whatever the next realm is that they're going." The actor adds with a laugh, "You know, I spent some time on YouTube looking up ... video of these huge, hulking walruses hanging out. And, you know, how they sounded, how they moved and tried to incorporate that into who Tragic Mick was."He adds, "That's part of the joy about being an actor, right? If the writing is good and the people are open to ... you trying crazy stuff sometimes, then that's the real fun of it."    Copyright © 2024, ABC Audio. All rights reserved.

Photo by Kevin Winter/Getty Images for iHeartRadioStagecoach Festival will be taking place April 26-28 in Indio, California, and fans seem to think Beyoncé may show up. Billboard reports those in the Beyhive have noticed several clues that suggest Bey's possible appearance at the festival. For one, Cowboy Carter collaborators Brittney Spencer, Post Malone, Tanner Adell, Willie Jones and Willie Nelson have sets at the event.Another potential clue: A name, Backwoods Barbie, is featured in the lineup and the website, where a link connects to an Instagram account with 15 pictures, and several mentions of Beyoncé and Cowboy Carter.Posts include photos of Beyoncé in Western attire, and pictures of Dolly Parton and Grace Jones, who respectively appeared on Cowboy Carter and Renaissance. The most recent post displays a map of the Stagecoach Festival grounds. “Catch me on Saturday night at 7pm out in Diplo’s Honky Tonk!” the caption reads. If that's not all, the account only follows Beyoncé, Parton, Wallen, Diplo, the Stagecoach Festival and restauranteur Guy Fieri. A banner and hauler promoting Cowboy Carter were also seen during Coachella weekend."Dj Backwoods Barbie on Ig is def giving very much Beyonce lol we see you gworl," one fan wrote on social media.Another asked the question, "Hive we at Stagecoach this weekend or nah?!?"In other Bey news, she sent out another set of flowers, this time to a young fan named Tyler who was captured on video asking his mother questions like, “Where’s Beyoncé?” and “Can I visit Beyoncé?” He also insisted, “Beyoncé is our friend!” Tyler's mom shared the news, adding the flowers were sent with a stuffed animal and a note that read, "I see your halo, Tyler." Pablo Cuadra/FilmMagicIn the forthcoming May 7 episode of David Duchovny’s Fail Better podcast, Ben Stiller unpacked what Zoolander 2 bombing did for him — for better or worse. The 2016 movie tanked at the box office and was critically drubbed, which took a toll on him, Stiller says in the interview."It hurt," Stiller said, according to The Wrap.“I thought everybody wanted this, and then it’s like, 'Wow, I must have really f***** this up. Everybody didn’t go to it. And it's gotten these horrible reviews."Stiller adds, "It really freaked me out because I was like, 'I didn’t know [it] was that bad?'"The director of the 2008 comedy Tropic Thunder recalls, "What scared me the most on that one was l’m losing what I think what's funny, the questioning yourself,” he added. “It was definitely blindsiding to me. And it definitely affected me for a long time.”That said, there was a silver lining. "The wonderful thing that came out of that for me was ... if that had been a hit, and they said 'Make Zoolander 3 right now' ... I would have just probably jumped in and done that."Stiller added, "Even if somebody said, 'Well, why don’t you go do another comedy or do this?’ I probably could have figured out something to do. But I just didn’t want to."What came from that break was developing some limited series, like 2018's Escape at Dannemora, for which he was nominated for an Emmy in the directing category, and the Emmy-nominated Apple TV+ series Severance.Copyright © 2024, ABC Audio.
