PETER WELCH IS ALSO ON THE PANEL. A BROADBAND BILL LOOKING TO ADDRESS BLACKOUT AREAS IN THE STATE HAS BEEN SHOT DOWN BY NEW YORK GOVERNOR ANDREW CUOMO. THE VETO, SPARKING CONCERNS FROM LAWMAKERS, RESIDENTS, AND EVEN SCHOOL TEACHERS. NBC5'S BRANDON MENARD EXPLAINS. TAKE SOT (0:07) Aaron Benner - Mooers Forks resident- Not being able to have high speed internet, just having the cell, has been something that has brought some struggles. IN THE NORTH COUNTRY, HAVING ACCESS TO FAST AND RELIABLE INTERNET IS NOT SOMETHING THAT'S GUARANTEED. AARON BENNER, says it would cost HIS FAMILY THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO get better service. TAKE SOT (0:13) Internet is 1,000 feet away. Ok, not a big deal. To run that 1,000 feet, the bill was $10,040. Which in times like these, at any time, that's a sizable investment. THE COMPREHENSIVE BROADBAND CONNECTIVITY ACT WAS PUT ON GOVERNOR ANDREW CUOMO'S DESK AT THE END OF LAST YEAR. proposing A STATEWIDE SURVEY TO LOCATE AREAS WITH LITTLE TO NO INTERNET ACCESS AND HOPEFULLY FIX THE PROBLEM. but the governor didn't sign it. THE NORTHERN ADIRONDACK SCHOOL DISTRICT, is disappointed by the decision BECAUSE roughly 20% OF THEIR STUDENTS HAVE INTERNET ISSUES. TAKE SOT: (0:12) Tammy Malark - Business education teacher, Northern Adirondack Central School - It is key to success down the road in their current to have better access, more reliable access to internet. LOCAL LAWMAKERS are also frustrated. but committed to getting northern new yorkers the access they need. TAKE SOT: (0:09) Sen. Dan Stec - (R) 45th Senate District - He could've taken this bill in December and vetoed it on the spot and then included it in his budget. He's done none of that. So disappointed is probably the polite way to say it. TAKE SOT: (0:07) Billy Jones -- (D) Assembly District 115 -- I'm hopeful that we'll come to a solution, we just need to do it sooner than later. I will never give up on this. OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS NEW YORK STATE has invested, $500 million dollars, INTO HIGH-SPEED INTERNET UPGRADES THROUGH THE STATE'S BROADBAND FOR ALL INITIATIVE. THE GOVERNOR WANTS TO ADDRESS BROADBAND ACCE
