L'ambassade des Pays-Bas organise ce 8 juillet 2021, à partir de 19h, une rencontre virtuelle exclusive avec l'écrivain néerlandais très connu Abdelkader Benali qui a écrit le récit «Voyageurs d'une autre ère» sorti en 2020, qui raconte l'histoire incroyable de Mourad Raïs né Jan Janszoon. Un corsaire converti à l'Islam qui est allé jusqu'à changer de nom pour se faire une place à Alger. Ce récit dresse l'épopée de Mourad Raïs et se mêle à la vie personnelle de l'auteur. Mourad Raïs est un personnage fantasmagorique dans l'imaginaire collectif tant néerlandais qu'algérien. Benali va nous aider à démêler le vrai du mythe. Le débat sera animé par Salim Brahimi et sera entièrement live en ligne à travers la plateforme Zoom d'où les participants pourront poser leurs questions et interagir avec l'auteur. (JTA) – The national commemoration committee of the Netherlands named as its keynote speaker a Muslim author who has called Gaza a “ghetto” and is accused of making antisemitic statements about Dutch Jews. The National 4 and 5 May Committee made the announcement Jan. 18 of Abdelkader Benali to deliver the annual address at the main memorial ceremony this year in Amsterdam on May 4, the date when the Dutch nation remembers its fallen soldiers and victims of Nazism, including 102,000 Dutch Jews. The king and other dignitaries attend the event.
One of the Netherlands’ best-known war correspondents, Benali went on an antisemitic rant in July 2006 in Beirut, Lebanon, during a conversation they had at a party. “Benali let loose,” wrote Doornbos, a former reporter for the NOS national broadcaster and a correspondent who specialized in the Muslim world. Doornbos quoted Benali as having said that southern Amsterdam “is full of Jews. And that’s annoying that there are so many of them. Amsterdam Jews. Makes you feel uneasy as a Moroccan. It looks like Israel. So many Jews, it just feels crazy.”

AMSTERDAM (JTA) – Amid protests by prominent Dutch Holocaust survivors, an author who called Gaza “a ghetto” and said he feels uncomfortable around Jews has stepped down as keynote speaker of the national ceremony commemorating victims of the genocide.
In a statement published Thursday on the website of the National 4 and 5 May Committee, Dutch-Moroccan author Abdelkader Benali wrote that on the national commemoration day, “we come together to commemorate and the discussion around my remarks must not distract from that. So I’ve decided it’s better if someone else deliver the speech.”

The national committee for Remembrance of the Dead Day made the announcement Monday of Abdelkader Benali to deliver the annual address at the main memorial ceremony this year in Amsterdam on May 4, the date when the Dutch nation remembers its fallen soldiers and victims of Nazism, including 102,000 Dutch Jews. The king and other dignitaries attend the event which memorializes all military and civilian deaths in kingdom’s wars since the start of World War Two, including those who have died on peace-keeping missions.
