KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Independence, Jackson County and Clay County joined Kansas City, Missouri, and other regional jurisdictions Friday in rolling back its emergency health orders put in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Effective immediately masks are not required indoors or outdoors and all social distancing capacity restrictions have been lifted,” the city said in a release announcing the changes.

Kansas City metro area health officials are grappling with how to handle continuing case count increases after reopening businesses more than five months ago.
What you need to know:
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment said Wednesday the state has 292,836 confirmed cases of COVID-19, and there have been 4,724 deaths since the outbreak started. Overall the state said 12% of the population has been vaccinated. Kansas is now only updating COVID-19 data on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services said Thursday there have been 477,078 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the outbreak and 7,902 deaths. Overall the state said 12.3% of the population has received at least one dose. Sign up for our Newsletters

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — After the state of Missouri
recognized its municipal health department again, the city of Independence broke from the Jackson County Health Department's emergency COVID-19 guidance, enacting its own
Restaurants, bars and taverns in Independence are allowed to remain open until midnight instead of having to close at 10 p.m., which is the curfew in place for Kansas City, Missouri, and the rest of eastern Jackson County.
Management at Score Sports Bar and Grill in Independence are excited to be able to stay open an additional two hours.
