Hungry Hearts Feeding Ministry got out today to plant various vegetables from corn, cabbage, peppers, tomatoes, strawberries and more.

LAWTON, Okla. (TNN) - Hungry Hearts Feeding Ministry hosted a Garden Party Saturday morning at Cameron University to kick off gardening season.
Founder and President Adriene Davis said it’s about more than growing vegetables in a garden.
It’s about helping the community grow, too.
“Not a lot of people can get fresh vegetables depending on their budget,” she said. “If this is a way for them to eat more healthy, then we encourage them to come up here and water the garden, harvest and take care of it and actually see how plants grow in containers because if you have a place you can grow your own fresh vegetables in containers, with very little space, then you can grow what you eat.”

Eisenhower Generals highlight leaders for Black History Month

LAWTON, Okla. (TNN) - Eisenhower Elementary Generals are learning about more than historical figures for Black History Month this year.
School officials decided to spotlight one local African-American leader each week to educate students.
Stephanie Overby teaches kindergarten at the school, but it’s not just for her class, it’s school wide.
“We wanted to really highlight people who we don’t often talk about,” Overbby said. “We always hear about Martin Luther King Junior and Rosa Parks, but this year, we wanted to kind of venture out of that and talk about people that we don’t hear about often.”

LAWTON, Okla. (TNN) - Hungry Hearts Feeding Ministry gave out Christmas food baskets and gifts.
This year they weren’t able to serve meals like usual because of the Coronavirus pandemic.
So they handed out more than 100 food baskets with either a ham or turkey, green beans, corn, mash potatoes, dinner rolls, and peaches.
They also presented 200 wrapped gifts to make sure children have something under the tree this year.
”Right now, everybody needs some help. We just ask that people make sure it’s a need and not a want because they’re struggling right now in 2020. It’s very important to try and put a smile on somebody’s face and make sure those babies wake up with at least one of two gifts so they can have something under that tree,” Founder Adriene Davis said.
