>> i mean they're filling the vacuum. it's not just people like laura loomer, elon musk, people in the social media atmosphere who are amplifying this. it's also coming from people on capitol hill, right? >> oh, yeah. he's got more people in the senate. he's got, you know, the byron donalds of the world, elise stefanik -- >> vp aspirations. also has vp aspirations. >> all of these folks on talking points. my reporting tells me they have been with the trump campaign how they can be helpful and they've been told blanket the air waves, do more and more media hits. and those make for sound bites that trump on truth social he hits repost. >> that is the currency within trump world, right, is media amplification and getting people out to all fall in line. even when you see bill barr now saying he's going to vote for the former president again it's very significant. they fall in line and we're

republicans are starting their nomination process. $97 million raised in the final three months of 2023. that's an improvement on 71 million, 72 million that they raised in the two previous quarters. bigger, $117 million. that's how much the biden campaign has in the bank to start the year 2024. to put that in perspective, the campaign says, look, the republicans in iowa have spent $100 million combined on the air waves, just trying to get out the caucus votes for tonight. that's a significant advantage or the incumbent as we start this year. if you look under the hood of the numbers they're talking about, especially as it relates to grass roots support, the average donation, just about $40. 97% of the donors gave less than $200. that means that they can keep going back to these donors over and over again, through the course of this year. and, chris, we have to also mention another factor that boosted the biden campaign fundraising, it was the end of the hollywood writing strike.

communicate this stark choice across the air waves, on the ground, over the course of the next ten month s so when folks make that choice, they understand the one candidate that's been fighting for them and will continue so for another four years is joe biden. >> i want to show you another poll number then i'll move on, but the cbs news poll that came out today that shows that 81% of republicans we were just talking about in the previous segment, 81% of republicans approve of the language that donald trump has been using talking about immigrants poisoning the blood of the united states. but in that same poll and i don't know if our control room has it available to show our viewers, in that same poll, it shows 47% of all voters agree with trump's claim that immigrants are poisoning the blood of this country. is it time for the president to go out there and more forcefully defend immigrants, the immigration experience in this

i don't need to go out and caucus. this is something donald trump has said time and time again, telling his supporters, pretend that we are losing by a point, that we are not winning in the polls. he wants people to actually show up. now, part of that is also because they want to set the tone for the primary season. they want a definitive win here that would curb any momentum that any candidates are having. that's their big goal. one of the things we talked about, they are really trying to bring out first time caucus goers. whether or not this weather stops people who have never caucused before, that's going to be something interesting to watch. >> and what about after iowa is the former president already looking to new hampshire? >> his team is certainly looking to new hampshire. they are spending a combined between the super pac and the campaign, $4.5 million right now on the air waves, attacking nikki haley on immigration. that is not any kind of coincidence. they are seeing her rise in the

polls, and that's also why, when i talk about winning by a big margin in iowa, that's very important to them because of new hampshire. they want to curve any kind of momentum that nikki haley has so that she's not soaring into new hampshire, and particularly we're talking about nikki haley here. just to give you an idea, they are not spending any money at all campaigning right now on the air waves against florida governor ron desantis. the super pac, $1.3 million a week up until the primary in new hampshire hitting nikki haley. they clearly are concerned there. they really wanted this to wrap up. they originally thought donald trump has a big lead in both states, they have been watching the poll numbers, they are seeing her inch higher and higher every day. >> thank you so much. looking ahead to new hampshire now that trump critic and former new jersey governor chris christie has suspended his presidential campaign, will his supporters there vote for nikki haley in the nation's first primary? chris christie has yet to endorse a candidate.

preparing for what the impact of that is going to be, but haley is also trying to carve out something interesting that's different from when you hear her in person than when you see her on the air waves. she's trying in person to present herself at her own biography. she's kind of going at trump, but not directly. on the air waves, though, she's definitely trying to lump desantis and trump together. her super pac out with a new ad that does just that, sort of leaving her as the clear alternative to the non-trump candidates. watch that ad. >> make america great again. >> build the wall. >> big league. >> so good. >> make america great again. >> responsible for the funding. >> then mr. trump said, you're

Decision 2024 Debate Coverage

a stage where it's not eight people talking to each other, you sort of hope for a more substantive discussion, maybe you'll hit a few policy points. instead this was an all-out slugfest. the thing i noticed immediately right off the bat you had desantis going off with mealy-mouth and haley pointing out the way he's scondered tens of millions in his presidential bid only to end up second or third in the state that he laid his hopes on, which is iowa. the attacks were done almost in buzz words because all these attack ads have already been on the air waves in places like iowa, in places like new hampshire. we've heard these criticisms between the candidates on the debate stage before. there were moments there were so many disparate attack lines, it was hard to follow along. the fact you didn't have a commercial break for first 50

general letitia james, but she is also seeking to ensure donald trump can never do business in the state of new york as well. he is staring at the fate of his trump family organization and the business and its future in the state of new york, jose. >> vaughn hillyard, thank you very much. so dasha, let's kind of focus in on those four days left before the iowa caucuses. what's on the line for nikki haley and ron desantis tonight during the debate? it's also going to be the same time that trump is holding a town hall. >> reporter: right, well, jose, this battle for second place has gone on far too long. that is what i'm hearing from the candidates, from the voters, from donors, from pundits, and it's time to put it to an end, and tonight could be a step towards that. the two have really ramped up the heat, ramped up their rhetoric against one another in campaign ads. look, the air waves have been full of attack ads between nikki haley and ron desantis.

they'll be head to head as they have been neck in neck in the polls here, and really ramping up their attacks on each other, both on the air waves and in interviews, including in both of their sit-downs with us and with the "des moines register" last week, but they're going to have to do a lot in this debate to rile up voter support because as you mentioned, those temperatures, i mean, katy, imagine do you want to go out in negative 25 degree windchill temps? i don't think so. the popular theory is that it is likely that those negative tents might actually impact the trump campaign more because he's been out here saying that we're so far ahead, we're so far ahead, that people might think, all right, he's got it in the bag. why do i need to show up. so it might actually benefit desantis and haley a little bit more. here's what desantis had to say recently. >> doesn't matter the weather, they're going to be there. they're going to caucus. you know, donald trump has said he has all the votes he needs, you know, i mean, i don't know
