Slot 3 Writers Group (30/01) - University of Sydney Union | University of Sydney Union

SLOT 3 2024: BEHIND CLOSED DOORS- WRITER’S CALLOUT

Slot 3 is back in 2024 and better than ever! We’ve expanded the length which you can write, which is now 5-25 minutes, allowing for both your quickest sketch or a more complex piece. We’re also creating a writer’s group to meet over the summer break, to help support our writer’s process and workshop the pieces.

OUR THEME: BEHIND CLOSED DOORS What goes on behind a closed door? A secret lover's tryst? A clandestine deal? A meeting where no one wants to let cold air in? Could it be something funny? Something serious? Both? So many possibilities! Let your mind run wild and come write for Slot 3!

WRITER’S GROUP This is an opportunity for our SUDS writers to come together to support each other’s work for SLOT 3. This group will be an opportunity to brainstorm, work with other writers, and workshop and improve your writing. We may even have some guest writers come and help workshop… Who knows what we have up our sleeves… Writers can elect to write their piece by themselves, or co-write with someone else! If you’re interested, please fill out the form linked on this page. If you forget to fill out the form, don’t worry, you can still rock up to the writer’s group anyways. If you’re interested in writing but can’t make the writer’s group for any reason, send us an email on sudsthewash@gmail.com. Any other questions can also be directed to sudsthewash@gmail.com.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY SUDS acknowledges that the University of Sydney and the Cellar Theatre reside on stolen land; the land of the Gadigal people of the Eora nation. As a society that exists to tell stories, it is important to acknowledge that stories were being told on this land for thousands of years before British colonisation. Jojo Zaho opens up about her elimination from RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under

9Entertainment spoke to Jojo about her time on the show.
What was it like to be invited on to RuPaul's Drag Race?
We were in talks for about two months, but nobody had actually mentioned the words 'Drag Race'... and then they confirmed it, and I thought, 'Wow, OK... I guess we're doing this now!'
What was it like to work with other Aussie and Kiwi queens on the show?
I actually work at the Broken Hill festival every year, so I've worked with Art Simone there before, and I've worked with Kita Mean and Anita Wiglet there as well, and Etcetera Etcetera is joining us there this year as well, so I definitely felt at home with a lot of queens, and we all get along great.

'Look where it is today': The origin of 'Always Was, Always Will Be'

Download 3.51 MB
"Always Was, Always Will Be Aboriginal Land" is an important statement for First Nations communities, and was recently the 2020 NAIDOC week theme.
Senator and Gunnai-Gunditjmara and Djab Wurrung woman Lidia Thorpe told Sammy J her uncle Robbie Thorpe coined it.
"It's something I have heard from a kid from him - and look where it is today," she said.
