Biden, Harris and thousands of DC residents celebrate MLK at local events

ANDREW CABALLERO-REYNOLDS/AFP via Getty Images(WASHINGTON) On Monday morning, thousands of residents flooded the historic Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in southeast Washington, D.C. the throughway for the city's annual peace walk and parade in commemoration of the late civil rights icon. More than 120 organizations registered to participate in the parade, the event's first return to force since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. "Just don't give up the fight. And that's what it means for me today," Denise Rolark Barnes, co-chair of the MLK Holiday DC Committee, told ABC News. "We have to continue to support each other, to fortify ourselves in the best way that we can," Barnes said of the significance of Monday's event.
