A New York appellate court held Thursday that Jay-Z is owed $4.5 million in royalties from a perfume company, overturning a lower court's ruling in a decision that was made before he faced off in a trial where the jury found neither side proved its claims.
Jay-Z told a New York jury Monday that Parlux Fragrances LLC's "crappy" ideas and ultimately "rogue" handling of follow-up products for his Gold Jay-Z cologne led to the breakdown of their business relationship and the perfumer's "shakedown" contract lawsuit against him.
Jay-Z testified in person at a New York state civil jury trial on Friday to reject allegations that he failed to promote his Gold Jay-Z cologne, claiming the perfumer suing him for $18 million was "mischaracterizing" the facts and did not understand his business.
