Researchers detect vaccine-induced SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in breast milk

Researchers detect vaccine-induced SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in breast milk
With the continuing spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), researchers have worked frantically to bring out effective and safe vaccines.
A new paper released on the
medRxiv preprint server describes, for the first time, the detection of antibodies to the virus in human breast milk following the vaccination of lactating mothers. This could guide patients, their healthcare providers, and public health policymakers alike as to the deployment of the vaccines in pregnant and lactating mothers.
With over 115 million cases of COVID-19 and approximately 2.5 million deaths reported worldwide, the task of global vaccination remains crucial. ....

Delayed second dose strategy with mRNA vaccines may reduce COVID-19 mortality, say researchers

Delayed second dose strategy with mRNA vaccines may reduce COVID-19 mortality, say researchers
An interesting new preprint on the
medRxiv server shows that even if countries are forced to delay the second dose of the current vaccines administered against the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), to arrest the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the cumulative mortality would still fall significantly.
The study aimed to provide an in-silico estimation of the health outcomes in the population, given either as originally scheduled or with a delay in the administration of the second dose.
Vaccine contenders
The earliest vaccines to gain emergency use authorization in the USA were the two messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) vaccines, BNT162b2 (Pfizer/BioNTech) and mRNA-1273 (Moderna). These are meant to introduce the mRNA encoding the spike antigen of the virus. ....

Researchers develop mutant gene-targeted immunotherapy approach to fight cancers

Researchers develop mutant gene-targeted immunotherapy approach to fight cancers
A novel targeted immunotherapy approach developed by researchers at the Ludwig Center, the Lustgarten Laboratory, and Bloomberg~Kimmel Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy at the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center employs new antibodies against genetically altered proteins to target cancers.
The researchers targeted their immunotherapy approach to alterations in the common cancer-related p53 tumor suppressor gene, the RAS tumor-promoting oncogene or T-cell receptor genes. They also tested the therapy on cancer cells in the laboratory and in animal tumor models. Their findings are reported in three related studies published March 1 in
