unemployment rate in the country. that's why we sent david lee miller there to get the story. folks who need work are searching for signs of hope. >> reporter: the unemployment rate for the area around charlotte is 12.8%, even higher than the state average. more than 60,000 people have lost their jobs in this community. some of them are in this room right now. this is a refrigeration repair class at the community college. many of these people taking courses hoping they will learn the skills that will allow them to get a job in the future. i would like you to meet someone i talked to earlier. daniel williams lost his job, he has a wife and kids. he has a trucker's license. you have been unable to get work trucking. how bad is it in your community? what does the president have to know? >> our community is terrible. people are losing their jobs by the day.
