The University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Library has successfully digitized the 鯨魚鑬笑録 (Geigyo ranshōroku) scrolls, rare hand-painted Japanese scrolls depicting the process of whale hunting during Japan’s Edo period.
Users can now view the Geigyo ranshōroku scrolls online in high-resolution, beyond what they would see in person.
The gifts include books from the Read Japan Project and a rare letter from Sir Ernest Satow.
Tokiko Bazzell received the Nina D.P. Horio Excellence in Librarianship Award.
