THE JUICE WITH JEM
Rubin “The Hurricane” Carter who was convicted and imprisoned for nearly 20 years for a triple murder charge he didn’t commit, died at his home in Toronto at the age of 76.
Carter, a professional middleweight boxer from New Jersey with a swift left hook and a troubled past, was convicted back in 1967 by an all-white jury at the age of 29, (despite a lack of evidence) after a bartender and two customers were shot dead one night at the Lafayette Grill in the city of Paterson.
A death penalty was sought out for Carter and fellow convicted acquaintance John Artis, a 19-year-old Eagle Scout with no criminal record, but the jury recommended life sentences instead.
