Two named to fill vacant judgeships in 36th District Court
Two new judges have been appointed in 36th District Court in Detroit by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, the governor s office announced Wednesday.
 Named to the judgeships are attorney Sean B. Perkins and Millicent D. Sherman, the court s chief magistrate. 
 Perkins is an attorney at the Perkins Law Group PLLC where he has handled felony and misdemeanor criminal cases, personal injury and no-fault civil cases, and bankruptcy cases. 
Perkins, who also is also a benefits representative for UAW Local 387 at Ford s Woodhaven Stamping facility, worked at the plant as a Hi-Lo driver and pipefitter before going to law school. ....

Comments sought on proposed Interim Administrator Program
The Michigan Supreme Court is seeking comments on a proposal from the State Bar of Michigan that would create a new Interim Administrator Program within the bar and impose new obligations on attorneys.
Under the proposal, attorneys in private practice would be required to nominate another attorney or law firm to serve as interim administrator if the nominating attorney becomes unable to practice. The bar would confirm the nomination with the named attorney, and that attorney would acknowledge agreement.
Alternatively, an attorney could pay an annual fee unspecified in the bar’s proposal to ensure that in the event of death or disability, the Bar would appoint an attorney to serve as interim administrator. ....

Judge Beatrice Millender, of the 36th District Court, died of natural causes Jan. 16.
Beatrice Pennie Millender, a judge in Detroit’s 36th District Court for 17 years, died Saturday morning at age 68, her family confirmed.
Born in Detroit to World War II veteran and lawyer Robert Millender and his wife Louise, Beatrice took after her father in their matching pursuits to foster the youth and ensure justice for all.
A graduate of Southern University and the Detroit College of Law, Millender was appointed by Gov. Jennifer Granholm to the 36th District Court, the largest district court in the state, in 2003. There, she served as the presiding judge for the real estate and civil division. ....
