i think it will be a challenge for him to deal with this in his own reelection in florida. as even fox news pans there earrings. i m sick of these hearings. make me feel better, guys. tonight the ranking member of the weaponization committee, stacey plaskett, on where this is headed. bringing the word to the sidelines of the more ball. ukrainian soldier using the world s largest spectacle to keep attention on putin s war. when all in, starts right now. good evening from new york. i m chris hayes. well, today, fbi agents found yet another classified document improperly stored, this time of the indiana home of former vice president mike pence. now that s in addition to the first batch of classified documents that were discovered at pence s home last month. today s search was reportedly a voluntary cooperation between pence in the department of justice, not unlike what we have seen with several of joe biden s properties. what is non voluntary, however, is the subpo ....
Senate in california. congressman, given the rare part of a committee that recommended for criminal charges against donald trump, what s your reaction to the news about the subpoena from jack smith s office to the vice president? well, i am very pleased that they have taken this step, and chris, i think you re exactly right. you don t start with a witness like mike pence. but you might finish with a witness of the significance of the vice president, the former vice president of the united states. so this may tell us that the january six investigation of the justice department is at a pretty advanced stage. all i can say to that is, it s about time. but i would also mention this. they clip you played of pants saying congress had no right to his testimony, that s really beside the point. mike pence is really saying, apparently, in that interview is, congress has no right to get my testimony before i put it in the book. because he wrote about some of this in his book. ....
Executive privilege or immunity of some kind? he will probably have that ability, although a lot less so in the justice department that he had with congress. yes, we went around and around with the vice president for weeks and months, trying to get him to come in testify. even witnesses who did come in and testify, often asserted a completely bogus privileges, and we understood it would take us an endless period of time to compel them in court, and we made a decision to get what we could get in a timely way. the justice department, though, as much greater power to enforce its subpoenas. we had to go hand in hand to them. they on the other hand can prosecute people who refuse. so they have a lot more power, but nonetheless, if the vice president wants he can also try to draw this out. if he does, i think it ought to be exposed for what it is, and that is putting his ....
Generally. that is how congress has operated. it is up until this group of individuals have, and within the first month of congress had issued subpoenas. as they went for the last two, three years, that does not mean that as soon as you grab the gavel, you can throw out subpoenas, willy-nilly. it does not have any import to it. here he is, devaluing the institution of congress. there are serious issues that americans are concerned with. and, there are serious oversight areas. investigations that we do need to go into. that we do need to ensure that the integrity of the fbi, doj, and all of these agencies is being run pop really, and has authority over that. when they cast this wide net for any conspiracy theory that you want, that erodes, even more, america s already shaky ....
That being said, i never stood in the way of senior members in my team cooperating with the committee and testifying. but congress has no right to my testimony. you re closing the door on that entirely? i m closing the door on that. it s worth noting that pence s excuse there is subpar. the committee was bipartisan. remember, there weren t any republican appointees because they pull their own members in boycott were nancy pelosi struck two of them who are involved in the insurrection. but again, it doesn t matter in the end. those are the kinds of excuses you can make it an interview and try to stonewall congress. they are not going to work against a doj subpoena. that subpoena almost certainly signals that a next step possibly a closing step in this investigation. the federal investigation into the insurrection has been unfolding, of course, for more than two years now. but the brunt of that investigation, it s the largest in doj s history, which is really something. ....
