A new farming robot can weed up to 20 acres in a day, saving labor and chemicals.
The Autonomous Weeder uses lasers, a supercomputer, GPS, and computer vision.
Weeds are a costly nuisance for farms of all sizes, so the robot could drastically improve farmers bottom lines.
Farmers, prepare for the future: there s a new robot on the block that can slay 100,000 weeds per hour all night, every night.

This Autonomous Weeder stands out from other robots in its class because it uses high-powered lasers to zap pesky sprouts into oblivion. And because the bot uses thermal energy to eradicate weeds, rather than a physical intervention like tilling, the machine doesn t disturb the soil below. That means reduced farm costs, no more herbicides, and most importantly, happier, healthier ....

In the same way, a self-driving car sees its surroundings on city streets, sensors that use machine learning technology allow farm robots to navigate fields. Automation is a growing presence in the farm industry, and a new generation of autonomous robots is helping farmers shape tomorrow s crops.
Crops that can be harvested with barely any or no herbicides would be beneficial not just to humans but also to the environment. An oddly-shaped autonomous farm tractor can eliminate the need for toxic herbicides by using high-powered lasers to weed about 20 acres per day to solve this dilemma.  ....

Robotics has evolved tremendously over the years and robots can now assist us in our most various activities, including farming. Seattle-based manufacturer Carbon Robotics has revolutionized agriculture with the launch of its Autonomous Weeder robot.
The hi-tech machine can help farmers reduce manual labor costs and increase the quality of their crops. The Weeder is a much more eco-friendly approach to traditional herbicides and chemicals that spoil the soil and are also harmful to people and animals.
The bot is a four-wheeler that runs on diesel and weighs 9,500 lb (4,309 kg). It has a 75-gallon fuel capacity, it is fully autonomous and can run around the clock, at 5 mph (8 kph). The Weeder uses powerful 150 W lasers to destroy over 100,000 undesirable weeds per hour and it can cover 15-20 acres (approximately 6 to 8 ha) per day. It ....
