Upcoming decisions in two higher education cases could have a chilling effect on Black enrollment and more, one scholar says.

In June, the Supreme Court will decide on two affirmative action cases that could potentially alter the landscape of higher education. The plaintiff in both, Students for Fair Admissions, is challenging race-conscious admissions at Harvard University and the University of North Carolina. The nonprofit membership group believes that affirmative action is not needed, justified

And now, the court has an opportunity to repudiate Grutter and eliminate race from admissions decisions by state institutions or private ones which receive federal monies. 

"Every time the government places citizens on racial registers and makes race relevant to the provision of burdens or benefits, it demeans us all."
