Some new options are now on the table as New Milford schools continue to try to deal with late buses, due mainly to a lack of drivers. All-Star Transportation in New Milford has been trying desperately to recruit bus drivers for the New Milford school district, but those efforts are still not producing desired results. Now, the school district is allowing families to drop children off early and offering after-school care for affected students.
Outgoing Danbury Mayor Dean Esposito graciously wished Danbury Mayor-elect Roberto Alves ‘best of luck’ at his final council meeting last Thursday night. That meeting was the last one before Mayor-elect Alves and several new council members are sworn into office. A woman from Ridgefield was assaulted in a park in Westchester County, New York and police there say it all was because of a verbal argument over a dog. Police in Westchester County arrested 57 year old Dawn Reich and her husband, 66 year old Steven Reich, who they say hit the woman and smashed her cell phone with a rock after telling her to put her dog on a leash. The victim suffered a head wound. Dawn Reich is charged with third-degree assault. Steven Reich is charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief.
The U.S. Justice Department is awarding $8.8 million to various Connecticut municipalities and the state for the hiring of more police officers, combating heroin trafficking, reducing school violence and to support community policing. The awards to Connecticut state departments and municipalities is part of a total $334 million being distributed across the country as part of the Justice Department’s Comprehensive Strategy for Reducing Violent Crime.
