On Thursday, a state Superior Court judge ordered Danbury Town Clerk Janice Giegler to remove the names of Independent Party of Danbury candidates from the line on the November 7 ballot where a conflicting endorsement has occurred. Immediately after that ruling yesterday, attorneys representing Giegler… who was one of the defendants in the complaint that was filed by Democratic mayoral candidate Roberto Alves… filed a motion requesting the Supreme Court review the ruling.

Voters in Sherman soundly rejected a plan… to the tune of $47 million… to renovate the Sherman School. Now, there are precious few options left to save the old and outdated building. The vote was 914 to 509 against repairing the old school. Now, the choices left include building a new school, eliminating the entire middle school program, or closing Sherman’s only public school… which would leave Sherman the only town in Connecticut without a school.

Today is Columbus Day. It is also Indigenous Peoples Day as per a declaration in 2021 by President Joe Biden. Most banks and all post offices are closed today. Most public and private schools are closed. The Connecticut DMV is always closed on Monday, so Columbus Day is no exception. No government run agencies and offices will be open, but most major chain stores and grocery stores will be open. Some local businesses may be closed.
