In New Milford, talks are centering around a building on East Street that until recently served as the headquarters of the Board of Education. The building is now empty after mold was discovered in it. The talks are aimed at deciding if it’s worth spending many millions of dollars to repair the building to bring it up to code. There are now plans to decommission the building’s boiler and drain the piping to kill off some of the mold.

A new report is good news for Danbury construction workers. During the first six months of 2023, total construction spending in the United States amounted to $917.4 billion—an inflation-adjusted increase of 16.5% from the same period in 2020. As of this past July, there were over 7.9 million people employed nationwide in construction, an all-time high. Construction workers in the Danbury metro area earn a median annual wage of slightly more than $7,000 more than the national average.

The museum has received $500,000 from the state’s Good to Great Grant Program to implement major renovations of the exterior campus.
