Eversource says their continued work schedule that includes trimming or removing trees along about 72 miles of roads in Danbury will help reduce power outages in the future. Eversource is addressing trees that threaten electric reliability in 131 communities… including Danbury… this year. The utility says weak, diseased, and hazardous trees are generally the primary cause of power outages, especially during a storm, and trimming helps to improve day-to-day reliability. They say they continue to see fewer power outages where trimming has been done.

Eversource is eying the use of a new type of “smart electric meter” that would be able to provide customers with real-time information and billing alerts that they claim would help customers trim energy costs. The new cutting edge technology… according to Eversource… would also mean crews would be dispatched faster after a power outage, and customers would be able to have better information about when their power would be restored too. United Way of Coastal and Western Connecticut officially has opened the ‘Food Farmacy of Greater Danbury.’ It has all come about with the support of a $1,050,000 grant. The Food Farmacy is a grocery-style food pantry co-located with the Connecticut Institute for Communities’ Community Center in downtown Danbury. It’s that time again… remember to turn your clocks back this weekend, as we fall back an hour to standard time at 2am Sunday. Back in 2019, lawmakers in Washington passed bills to make daylight saving time permanent. In March this year, the idea was reintroduced in our nation’s capitol in both chambers of Congress but so far, it hasn’t moved out of committee.

A severe shortage of bus drivers is affecting schools across the country, and it’s being felt locally too. A bus driver shortage in New Milford has resulted in some students arriving to school as much as two and a half hours late. Some parents are now complaining that their children have sometimes come home as much as an hour-and-a-half late. School officials responded, saying they are working with the bus company to try to address the situation.
