The real question will be will this be a military step that is essentially punative, that is punishing people who have used these banned weapons, or will it be in support of a broader political process . I think it will be the former for some of the reasons that you have outlined. I am not sure the American People are looking for a longstanding conflict but i think many would support a pun i have been action.
