States Can Learn From Great Recession, Adopt Forward-Looking, Antiracist Policies | Center on Budget and Policy Priorities
At least 14 states made higher education more affordable to immigrant students, such as by extending in-state tuition rates and financial aid regardless of immigration status. Some states improved school finance formulas to get more funding to high-poverty schools. For example, California adopted a new funding formula in 2013 that boosted districts’ aid for each student from a low-income family and each student learning English.
