The Fairfield Rotary Club during their meeting on Thursday announced their scholarship recipients for the year. Lucy Britt, Sara McGehee, Callista Willett, and Tyler Koker were all named Fairfield Rotary Scholars. Britt will be going to Basic Training, coming back to play volleyball at Frontier, go for Advanced Training, and then continue on in education. McGehee will be studying Aviation and Airport Management. Willett will study to be a counselor, and Koker will be a Graphic Design Major and minor in Marketing in Business

Bill Dean was born in Avery County in February 1941 to Annalee and Emmet Dean. Dean went to Newland High School, graduating in 1960.

Bethany N. Jordan, 23, of Norfolk, VA passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. She was born in Urbana, IL on December 26, 1999 the daughter of James Bradley and Jayne (Wiseman) Jordan. Bethany grew up traveling with her family to duty stations all over the country, including Illinois, California, Alaska and North Carolina while her dad served 25 years in the U.S. Marine Corp. After his retirement, they moved to Laredo, TX, where she graduated high school from Texas Connections Academy. Bethany began her Naval career on February 26, 2019, when she left for RTC ...
