With vaccines being distributed and the weather warming up, dining out seems like the best way to move on from the past year s funk.  It feels like it s about that time to get your groove back with food and dining, doesn t it? While some places have, unfortunately, closed down, the pandemic hasn t stopped some restaurant owners from moving forward. Dozens of new restaurants, bars or food businesses  have opened in the last few months –  and many more are on their way –  in South Jersey, including several at the Shore. What are you in the mood for? New offerings include everything from Pakistani food to fresh pasta, oysters, seafood, pizza and even bundt cakes.

The Gentle Giant Café, Pitman Dawn Lucas brought the vegan café to Gloucester County more than a year ago. The Paulsboro native and Washington Township resident says her café is “the only 100 percent vegan café in Gloucester County.” They also support animal rescues and sanctuaries on a monthly basis, she added. Lucas, the owner/operator, said the café will celebrate its two-year anniversary in May. She said some of their most popular dishes are Beyond Burgers, various rice dishes and BBQ jackfruit. They have plenty of breakfast and brunch offerings, including breakfast “sammies” and a customer favorite, a loxless bagel.

They closed for a while; revamped their menu; upped their takeout game; experimented with market items; embraced to-go wine, beer and cocktails, and eventually welcomed outdoor guests.
