Belmont Town Meeting will decide future of Belmont Light governance

There are eight non-financial articles to be voted on at the upcoming spring town meeting which will run May 3 to May 5. The outcome could change the way Belmont Light is governed, the name of a major holiday and the future of new construction in Belmont. 
Resolution to establish Indigenous Peoples Day
Article 10 asks Towm Meeting to vote to support the establishment of Indigenous Peoples Day. It was presented to the Select Board by Alex Fick, president of Belmont High School Student Activist Club. More than 175 cities and states have made the change including Cambridge, Brookline, Newton, Somerville and Melrose. ....

Happy Earth Day Belmontians! 
In honor of Earth Day, the Belmont Energy Committee and Belmont Light will be hosting an interactive “Belmont Home Electrification” live Zoom demonstration event on Thursday April 29 at 7 p.m. The entire community is invited to learn more about these technologies and the incentives available to make them more affordable.
Health in the Home Today:  Our health is significantly impacted by the way we heat our homes and even cook our foods. Put plainly, the burning of any fuel causes harmful air pollution, illness and premature death. How does this happen?  Burned gas releases nitrogen dioxide, volatile organic compounds, and small particles. All of these chemicals increase rates of asthma, heart disease and strokes. Children living in homes with gas stoves are 42% more likely to have asthma. Buildings dependent on natural gas for heating and cooking ....
