Later to trucks. Drivers were eager to get moving again, but it took a while. In fact, a drone captured the backup in nevada as plenty of people tried to make their way into california. Our kelsi thorud and photojournalist jim flanagan were among the drivers on interstate 80 making their way back home to the bay area. They gave us a firsthand look at conditions over the summit. Look at how high the snow bank is. Its like as tall as the car. Its impressive. How you doing, jim . Doing good. Just kind of nice and steady. They are the road trip buddies. They filed some great reports for us. Chains are still required on interstate 80 and caltrans warns drivers take it slow since some stretches of the road are down to one lane to make room for the machines doing cleanup. No chains needed on highway 50, but that could change. The storm dumped six to 11 feet of snow across the sierra and the snowpack now stands at 104 of normal for this time of year. Its a huge change from just two months ago ....
