The thought that comes to mind when we think about Prime Minister Modi’s BJP is muscular nationalism, Hindutva, and over-the-top-theatrics. Actually, the defining trait of the government is incompetence. Those other things are merely a cover for ineptitude. The record ranges from misreading and mishandling China, demonetisation, the shoddy GST rollout and slowing economy. But what has really revealed its true incapacity is the handling of the Covid vaccination programme.
In extenuation, supporters of the government say this is a ‘once in a century crisis’, forgetting World War II and the Partition. But we’ve begun hearing this phrase only now. Till February, the government was revelling in the masterly way it had dealt with the pandemic. Covid was not even discussed in any detail at the apex meeting of the Niti Aayog on February 20, chaired by the PM and attended by most Chief Ministers.

New Delhi: Bharat Biotech International Limited (BBIL) has conveyed to the government that it has submitted 90% of the documentation to the World Health Organisation for obtaining an emergency use listing for the Covaxin vaccine and the remaining details will be supplied next month, sources said on Monday.

Bharat Biotech s Karnataka facility to manufacture 5 crore Covaxin doses by August-end
Bharat Biotech s Covaxin manufacturing facility that is under construction in Kolar district in Karnataka would have a manufacturing capacity of four to five crore doses a month by August-end, state Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar said on Monday.
Talking to reporters here ahead of his meeting with the experts on mucormycosis, known as as black fungus, which is emerging as a new threat to those who recover from COVID- 19, Sudhakar said he had a video conference with Bharat Biotech founder Dr Krishna Ella, his daughter Dr Jala Ella and rest of the team.
Bharat Biotech on Friday said it has dispatched COVID vaccine Covaxin to various states like Gujarat, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Odisha. The Hyderabad-based vaccine major, which has come under fire from the Delhi government over supply-related issues, said it has also dispatched Covaxin lots to Kerala and Uttarakhand.
