Milano Cortina 2026 presents significant progress at second IOC Coordination Commission meeting 04/19/21 The second International Olympic Committee (IOC) Coordination Commission meeting with Milano Cortina 2026 was held virtually today, 19 April 2021. Wednesday, 3 March 2021 Sturla Holm Lægreid will look to mount pressure on overall leader Johannes Thingnes Bø when the International Biathlon (IBU) Union World Cup resumes in Nové Město na Moravě in the Czech Republic. Norway's Lægreid is on a high after winning four gold medals at last month’s IBU World Championships, including victories in the 20-kilometre individual and 15km mass start competitions. Fellow countryman Bø picked up golds in the men’s and mixed team relays but failed to top the podium in the four individual races in Pokljuka in Slovenia. Bø leads the World Cup standings on 871 points with three stages to go but Lægreid, who sits on 839, will be determined to reduce the 32-point gap.
Saturday, 27 February 2021 The Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) is taking the International Biathlon Union (IBU) to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) over its implementation of the decision from sport's highest court in the state-sponsored doping case. insidethegames understands the RBU has filed an appeal against the International Biathlon Union's (IBU) application of the series of sanctions imposed on Russia by the CAS in the country's dispute with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). IBU secretary general Niklas Carlsson confirmed the organisation had been notified of the appeal and told insidethegames he believes it is a "political statement on a national level" from the Russian authorities.

February, 2021 Austria’s Lisa Theresa Hauser new biathlete world champion Austria’s Lisa Theresa Hauser won a 12.5-kilometre mass start event for women at the Biathlon World Championships in Slovenia’s Pokljuka on Sunday for what is the first world champion title of her career. Norway’s Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold was 21.7 seconds behind the new world champion to place second, ahead of her fellow compatriot Tiril Eckhoff, who finished 23 seconds behind the winner. The last women’s race at this year’s championships brought a surprise after the very first shooting as the favourites had to do the penalty loop.
Sunday, 21 February 2021 Norway's Sturla Holm Lægreid cemented his status as a future star as Austria's Lisa Theresa Hauser secured her first Biathlon World Championships gold medal on the final day of the event in Pokljuka. Lægreid won the men's 15 kilometres mass start to seal his fourth title at the Championships, adding to his triumphs in the individual, mixed relay and men's relay races. The 23-year-old, who had not earned a World Cup victory until this season, pulled away on the last loop and finished in 32min 51.5sec. Lægreid led a Norwegian one-two as Johannes Dale took silver, 10.2sec back, while bronze went to Quentin Fillon Maillet of France.

Thursday, 18 February 2021 Julia Simon and Antonin Guigonnat of France caused an upset as they beat Norway's Johannes Thingnes Bø and Tiril Eckhoff to secure the single mixed relay gold medal at the Biathlon World Championships in Pokljuka. Simon and Guigonnat produced a fine shooting performance to edge out Bø and Eckhoff, the respective men's and women's overall International Biathlon Union World Cup leaders. The French pair completed the course in a time of 36min 42.4sec, 2.8sec clear of their Norwegian rivals. Sebastian Samuelsson and Hanna Öberg of Sweden did enough for bronze after crossing the line 22.6 behind the victorious French team.
