Umatilla sergeant who was allowed to quietly resign botched second sex assault case, suit alleges

The second case involved a Umatilla teenage girl who said she was sexually assaulted on a school trip to Houston. Umatilla Detective Sgt. Bill Wright told the girl's mom in an email in May 2022 that he had sent his police report to Houston police and they'd decide whether to prosecute. The girl's mother, though, learned Houston police knew "nothing" about her daughter's case nor had contact with Umatilla police at that time, the suit says.
