New Delhi- As of Monday, India recorded more than 2.59 Lakh fresh new cases of the novel coronavirus taking the tally of the caseloads to more than 1.53 crores. In the last 24 hours, India reported 1,761 new fatalities, marking it the biggest spike in the numbers of COVID fatalities recorded in a single day taking the death toll of the country which now stands at 1,80,530.

An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale struck off Japan's Miyagi Prefecture on Sunday, according to the authorities. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said the temblor occurred at 9.29 a.m., with its epicentre at a latitude of 38.3 degrees north and a longitude of 141.9 degrees east, and at depth of 50 km, reports Xinhua news agency. The quake logged 4 in some parts of Miyagi prefecture on the Japanese seismic intensity scale which peaks at 7. So far no tsunami warning has been issued. (IANS)

Assam- In spite of the novel coronavirus take an upward spiral in the state of Assam, Dibrugarh University has announced that it would conduct the undergraduate and postgraduate examinations in an offline mode.
Both regional and distant courses will have to undertake the offline mode of examinations for the undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
This decision to conduct the examinations in offline mode was announced after an official notification was signed by the controller of the examination in charge of Dibrugarh University Mr. A Baruah.
