Of the california ballot in next years general election. George wallace made his first run in National Politics in 1964 where he enters a few key primaries and does well there. His first Major National run comes in 1968. Where he has set himself up through these public appearances that he makes during the desegregation of aids and during the standin schoolhouse. He sets himself up to be his voice and standing against all of these changes that the federal government is making. He takes what hes been making and he broadens it for a national audience. And thats a debate that really resonates with a lot of pop feeling their concerns have not been heard and feeling they are living in a know, the federal government is moving too fast with their decisions and feel like their voices arent being heard. Freedom. I come to say to you this fternoon, i understand the hour. It will not be long. How long . Not long. You will reap what you sew. This is called an illustrated guide to the cradle of freedom. And basically, it looks at the hist referee the Civil Rights Movement in beal kind of telling the story geographically. I wrote a book history telling it chronologically. And kind of the theme of both books is that alabama had a central role in the Civil Rights Movement starting the montgomery busboy time in 1956 on through the freedom rides, the Birmingham Movement in 1963 and the settlement in 1965. But there are a lot of smaller stories scattered all around the state including here in mobile. And so i try to tell those as well. A lot of them were people i had never heard of, you know . In his april, 1960 three, letter from birmingham jail, Martin Luther king described the strategy of nonviolent resistance to racism, an argument that people have the moral responsibility to break unjust laws. Cspan visited the replica of reverend kings jail cell. Were in the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute in front of a replica of dr. Martin luther kings jail cell, the cell that he wrote the letter from birmingham jail in 1963. A white minister issued a statement published in the local newspapers that call dr. Kings demonstrations unwise and untimely. Dr. King responded to that with the letter from birmingham jail. Decided invoters april 1963 to change the form of government. Hes running for mayor and loses the election and the very next day after this run off april 2, then he starts the marches. , and of people felt birmingham and throughout the country, ....
