Barb was born Nov. 14, 1935, in New York City (Staten Island), to the late William and Marion Behlen. She grew up in New Jersey and graduated from Glen Ridge High School, where she was an All-State field hockey player. She attended Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, and was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. She graduated with a B.A. degree in sociology and psychology. DEAR EDITOR: Boardman Center School and Boardman police have a lot of explaining to do. Anyone who assaults a special needs child — or any child — with a stapler has no business working anywhere near children. If this incident made the news, I’m willing to bet it’s not the first revolting thing this person has done. I’d like to know what Boardman schools’ hiring policies are, namely, how they evaluate the qualifications and character of teacher’s aide applicants.
