Cove's Yancey intends to run for mayor | Center for Politics

The filing period for a place on the Nov. 2 ballot opens July 17.
Yancey, 67, was elected to the City Council in 2015 and has been mayor pro tem for four of his six years in office.
After the passing of Mayor Frank Seffrood in December 2018, Yancey handled the duties of mayor until Diaz was sworn into office on May 7, 2019.
“I feel my experience on the City Council, being Mayor Pro-Tem for the last four years and as Mayor Pro-Tem serving our city for several months after Mayor Seffrood’s passing, will help me to continue working for the citizens of Copperas Cove to make our city a great place call ‘home,’” Yancey said in a release via email Wednesday.

Dan Yancey to seek election to mayoral post

Copperas Cove City Councilman Dan Yancey has stated he intends to run for mayor of Copperas Cove in the upcoming November 2 general election, following Mayor Bradi Diaz’s decision not to run for re-election.
“Mayor Diaz has done a fantastic job working with City Council and City Staff while advancing causes for the City of Copperas Cove. She was instrumental in the selection of Ryan Haverlah as our City Manager in July of 2019 and oversaw the orderly transition of outsourced Utility Administration to an in-house full-service department,” Yancey said in a statement via email Wednesday.
“Mrs. Diaz had many ‘once in a lifetime’ challenges during her tenure: a tornado causing significant damages in parts of Copperas Cove in 2019, the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020-21 and Winter Storm Uri in 2021. All of these challenges required an enormous amount of her personal time spent working with City Staff to coordinate proper policies and procedures on the local, county, state and national levels.

Cove council goes different direction on Animal Control facility

After initially directing city staff to go in the direction of issuing certificates of obligation for the proposed new Animal Control facility on April 6, the Copperas Cove City Council did a 180 and decided it was best to send the issue to voters.
The council has until August to finalize the details to order the bond issue for the November election, City Manager Ryan Haverlah said after Tuesday’s meeting.
“There are no guarantees,” Haverlah said.
In the final meeting before receiving the proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2021-2022, the council was discussing the long-range debt calendar and the debt it wants to issue for 2021.

Copperas Cove Rabbit Fest underway, runs through Sunday

COPPERAS COVE — The rides — and the rabbits — are back at Copperas Cove City Park.
The 41st annual Rabbit Fest began with Appreciation Night at City Park on Thursday, and the event filled with music, carnival rides, food and more is continuing through Sunday.
Ross Oliver, Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce president, and Bradi Diaz, Copperas Cove mayor, commenced the event by welcoming visitors and thanking sponsors.
“I want to welcome you to the 41st Rabbit Fest,” Oliver said. “And a special thank you because last year we didn’t get to have it, so this year has double meaning so, this is the 40th and the 41st.”
