The next time you pick up a mobile phone, spare a thought for the pioneer of wireless communications technology. Guglielmo Marconi (1874-1937) was the Italian inventor of wireless telegraph, or radio, and shared the 1909 Nobel Prize for Physics with German physicist Ferdinand Braun.
