Gainesville native John Jarrard, a longtime country music songwriter, is set to be posthumously inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Brenda Porter, 61, was found guilty of murder, tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse. On Monday, the penalty phase of the trial began. Jurors heard testimony from prosecution and defense so they could recommend a sentence to the judge.
