This February, the Bard Music Festival presents A Program of French Piano Music, Inspired by the World of Nadia Boulanger, a recital of French music performed by pianists Danny Driver and Piers Lane recorded at The Menuhin Hall, Sussex, England in fall 2020. Commissioned by the Bard Music Festival, the concert features works by César Franck, Lili Boulanger, Gabriel Fauré, and Camille Saint-Saëns. The program includes a talk by renowned scholars Byron Adams and Kimberly Francis introducing the work of these four composers and of the person who connects them, Nadia Boulanger. ....

Moonlight Sonata, byname of
Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp Minor, Op. 27, No. 2: Sonata quasi una fantasia, solo piano work by Ludwig van Beethoven, admired particularly for its mysterious, gently arpeggiated, and seemingly improvised first movement. The piece was completed in 1801, published the following year, and premiered by the composer himself, whose hearing was still adequate but already deteriorating at the time. The nickname
Moonlight Sonata traces to the 1830s, when German Romantic poet Ludwig Rellstab published a review in which he likened the first movement of the piece to a boat floating in the moonlight on Switzerland’s Lake Lucerne. Beethoven dedicated the work to Countess Giulietta Guicciardi, a 16-year-old aristocrat who was his student for a short time. ....

.-Tim Van Laere Gallery is presenting its first solo exhibition of Marcel Dzama entitled The Moon is Following Me. Including drawings, sculptures, dioramas and a film, this exhibition marks the artist’s first solo presentation in Belgium.
Marcel Dzama (°1974 Winnipeg, Canada. Lives and works in New York) has developed an immediately recognisable visual language that investigates human action and motivation, as well as the blurred relationship between the real and the subconscious. Drawing equally from folk vernacular as from art-historical and contemporary influences, Dzama’s work visualises a universe of childhood fantasies and otherworldly fairy tales. Dzama s image repertoire includes a wide range of art-historical quotations. One can recognize ballet costumes by Oskar Schlemmer or Francis Picabia, for example, and direct references to Francisco de Goya, ....
