This isn’t the end to the season Saskatoon Blades general manager Colin Priestner had in mind.
With the Western Hockey League officially cancelling the 2021 playoffs Monday, the team’s orchestrater is left wondering what could have been for his potential championship-calibre roster.
“It’s obviously bittersweet. We’re proud of what we’ve done in a short period of time here. We would have been a strong contender had there been a long playoff run,” Priestner said. ....

The Regina Pats were able to finally best their rivals, the Saskatoon Blades, for the first time in the WHL hub.
Regina posted a 4-2 victory Tuesday at the Brandt Centre.
“Against them, it’s big because they had our number,” Pats head coach Dave Struch said after the game. “They pushed back on us and we responded well.
“I know they had some guys out of the lineup but they play a really good game they play hard and they play physical. We did some things that we have seen flashes of in this shortened season and we’ve built on last game and did things right.” ....

Blades withstand late push by Raiders - Prince Albert Daily Herald

Prince Albert Daily Herald
The Prince Albert Raiders were inches away from forcing overtime on Thursday night at the Brandt Centre.
Blueliner Remy Aquilon wrapped his way around the Saskatoon Blades net and found Dallyn Peekeekoot in front, but his shot and a rebound attempt by Reece Vitelli were turned aside by Blades goaltender Nolan Maier.
The Blades would seal their 5-3 victory on the following shift as Caiden Daley raced down the ice to score on an empty cage to hand their Raiders their second straight loss.
“I thought we worked hard but some little mistakes that we made in our game cost us in the end as they (the Blades) were able to put it in the back of the net,” Vitelli said. “If we clean those mistakes up, we have a different result.” ....
