The Siskiyou August Lightning Complex is made up of the White Fire, Ranch Fire and the Long Fire burning in the Pondosa area in southeast Siskiyou County.
The 2023 fire season is off to a slow start in California, experts say. So far, firefighters have responded to over 4,000 fires, but to put that number in perspective, Cal Fire says it’s below the average over the past five years. As of Monday, there were seven active fires burning across the state. So far, in 2023, more than 100,000 acres have been lost, 20 structures were destroyed, and there have been three fatalities.
Firefighters say the fire near Ribbonwood and Opalocka roads started around 4:15 p.m., when a driver went off the road and drove their vehicle into the brush.
