Senior Tory MP Caroline Nokes fires broadside at women in Boris Johnson's government

A senior Tory MP today appeared to take a veiled swipe at the female ministers in Cabinet by raising questions about the 'calibre' of women in top jobs.
Caroline Nokes, who chairs the Commons Women and Equalities Committee, also railed against the 'blokey mentality' pervading Boris Johnson's Cabinet.
Of the 26 Cabinet attendees, only six are women - Priti Patel, Therese Coffey, Liz Truss, Baroness Evans, Amanda Milling and Suella Braverman.
And they have taken a back seat to their male colleagues throughout the pandemic, according to Ms Nokes, a former immigration minister in Theresa May's Cabinet.

Boris Johnson says every care home in the county has been offered jabs for residents
And they are keen to play down hopes of restrictions on visits from loved ones being loosened anytime soon.
Social Care Minister Helen Whately said the Government is working on "what we can do to enable visiting" again after announcing that jabs have been offered to every care home in England where it was possible for teams to go in.
NHS chiefs added a "small remainder" have had visits deferred for safety reasons during a local outbreak and will be jabbed as soon as NHS staff are allowed to do so.

Minister defends Piers Morgan over interview style

Media and Data Minister John Whittingdale has defended Piers Morgan’s aggressive political interview technique during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Ministers boycotted Morgan’s ITV programme Good Morning Britain for 200 days until mid-November after he was outspoken in his on-air criticism of the Government’s handling of the crisis.
Some 3,200 people complained to Ofcom about two April interviews with Care Minister Helen Whately while a further 600 complained after Morgan grilled Health Secretary Matt Hancock. The regulator decided not to investigate.
Whittingdale said: “I don’t object to an aggressive interview style, I think if you’re in public life you have to accept that.
