shashi tharoor, welcome to hardtalk. thank you. good to see you again, stephen. you just heard me talk about india s current place in the world, the most populous nation, a growing economy, a stable government. would you agree that india right now is in a good place? it s not in a bad place in overall terms. that is that it s a country, it has always been, i think, a country to be reckoned with on the world stage, but now it s number one in global population, it s number three in purchasing power parity terms in the overall gdp, numberfive in dollar terms. it s a country of some substance. it does have free and fair elections. every once in a while we sort of overturn state governments, so we haven t yet been able to overturn the central government. so it counts for a great deal on the world stage. and i must say that when you look at things like technology, it s done rather well for a so called developing country. it s got some very fine talents. we seem to have export ....

a huge campaign issue for 2024. but we re going to start with an even bigger one. is donald trump eligible to be president of the united states again? colorado says no. maine says no. oregon and new hampshire and others might also chime in and say no. of course donald trump says yes, he is. so who ultimately decides this? the supreme court obviously is the ultimate decision maker here, and they might get involved. colorado has already asked them to. now with maine and perhaps others moving to take trump off the ballot, it only gets harder for the supremes to stay out of it. but here s the issue. getting into it is pretty complicated. both colorado and maine cite section 3 of the 14th amendment which bars officials who have taken an oath to support the constitution from holding office if they engage in an insurrection. the states say it is clear trump did just that on january 6th. what does the supreme court do about that? you might start to think about the make-up of th ....

at the intersection of the second amendment, and the first protesters are rallying at the tennessee state capitol as three democratic lawmakers could lose their jobs today for doing this a week ago. democratic state representatives . justin jones, justin pearson and gloria johnson, using a bullhorn during a gun control rally at the capitol to call for action in the wake of last month s deadly shooting that left 39 year old children and three adults dead. the three democratic lawmakers are accused of breaking house rules at any moment. we expect their colleagues to vote on whether or not they should be expelled. cnn national reporter ryan young is live for us in nashville ryan lots of noise still ongoing, a lot of protesters that were with the lawmakers one week ago are back there today to support these three legislatures. yeah we really seen this swell fred. in terms of protesters, we have thousands earlier outside. now you can see this small crowd that s still behind m ....
