"Evil dies tonight." So promises the actress Jamie Lee Curtis as horror icon Laurie Strode in the super-gory, full-length new trailer for "Halloween Kills." The film, which was directed by David Gordon Green ("Pineapple Express"), was shot in the Wilmington area in 2019. It's set for an Oct. 15 release. "Let it burn!" Curtis wails at the start of the trailer, which picks up where "Halloween" -- Green's 2018 follow-up to John Carpenter's original film -- left off. That is, with a massive fire that Curtis' character hoped would be the end of iconic horror killer Michael Myers. No such luck, of course, as the seemingly immortal Myers (who now gains supernatural powers with each kill?) dispatches what seems to be an entire crew of firefighters in the trailer. Not to mention murdering multiple other characters, and the trailer doesn't leave a whole ton to the imagination in terms of so-called "kill spoilers." (Although the film will presumably have a few surprises; we'll see.)
And a new season is now in full swing. Wilmington Sharks take on the Morehead City Marlins Thursday night. The game begins at 7:05 p.m. at Legion Stadiumâs Buck Hardee Field. Also, itâs dollar beer night at the stadium, so thereâs that. If you canât get enough baseball after having been deprived for a year through Covid, youâre in luck. The weekend is packed: June 4 the Sharks will play Palmetto Pirates at 7:35 p.m. and on June 5 they will take on the Morehead City Marlins again at 7:05 p.m., and June 6, the Florence Redwolves at 5:05 p.m.

WLOS-TV says hundreds of people marched for a rally in downtown yesterday against the Save Women's Sports Act and the Youth Health Protection Act. A board member with the group Youth OUTright W-N-C said the proposals could erase years of working for equality in the transgender community. It's likely the legislation won't make it to a vote by state lawmakers this session. Funeral Services Announced For Fallen Deputies (Watauga County, NC) -- Funeral services for two fallen western North Carolina deputies are planned this week. Sergeant Chris Ward and K-9 Deputy Logan Fox were killed during a welfare check at a Boone home last Tuesday. Services are open to the public this Thursday afternoon at the Appalachian State University Holmes Convocation Center. A Community Night of Remembrance is also set one week from today.
Updated: 9:41 PM EDT May 1, 2021 PINEVILLE, N.C. — Shoppers and employees at the Carolina Place Mall in Pineville were evacuated Saturday afternoon after reports that shots were fired inside the mall. The Pineville Police Department is investigating the case. Pineville Police were assisted by Medic and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department at the scene. Police Chief Michael Hudgins described the video of the incident as "chaotic," but said police do not currently believe the shooting was random. "We're trying to dig deeper, trying to figure it out," Hudgins said. Pineville Police said at 4:49 p.m. officers responded to the mall after reports of shots fired. Early during the investigation, officers learned two people started shooting at one another for an "unknown" reason Saturday. Police said it appears the two knew one another.
