Milton Town Council announced its annual Citizen of the Year and Lifetime Volunteer of the Year awards April 5. Taking home the Citizen of the Year award was Threasa Brittingham, who was recognized for her compassion, pride in the community and acts of kindness on behalf of Milton citizens, Town Manager Kristy Rogers said. Brittingham, a Milton native and graduate of Cape Henlopen High School, organized Grad Fairies during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Through the Simply Milton Facebook page, Brittingham asked parents to sign up children who were losing out on graduation because of the pandemic. March 10, 2021 Warrior Beach Week postponed to 2022 Operation Seas the Day announced that the 8th Warrior Beach Week will not be held in 2021. President Becky Johns said, “While this event continues to be important to Bethany Beach and surrounding areas, the impact of COVID-19 on the health and well-being of our guest families, volunteers and the community outweigh holding the 2021 event.” Warrior Beach Week provides military veterans and their families a week of rest and relaxation in the Bethany Beach area to enjoy the sun, sand and community recognition. Tremendous support for this event has changed lives and made it highly desirable for veterans and their families. Recognizing that warriors and their families still need help, organizers suggest supporters may redirect this year’s contributions to veteran organizations and/or those continuing to be adversely affected by the pandemic. ....

Brittingham Elementary helped their community by collecting food and toiletries during HOB s United in Kindness campaign. Students in Chrissie Maughan and Joseph Lingo s classes wanted to show their community that they could spread happiness and help others by having a food drive. They planned where to place collections containers, made posters for the school, filmed their own in-school commercial and spread the word throughout their school community. Students used their math skills to calculate the number of total ounces of food donated and converted the total into pounds. ....
