Journal Record Week in Review for the week ending April 2, 2021

In an effort to “lead by example,” Gov. Kevin Stitt received his COVID-19 vaccine – the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine – in front of a group of reporters gathered at a press conference held at the Oklahoma Capitol. Stitt said Oklahoma is one of the first states to reach the point of making all residents age 16 and older eligible, closing in on 2 million doses of vaccine administered since the rollout began three and a half months ago. State and county health departments administered 85% of those vaccines, 11% came from tribal partners and the rest through federal partners, Stitt said.
Oklahoma is doing a phenomenal job of getting the COVID-19 vaccine into people’s arms, but fallout from the disease will remain long after the pandemic ends, health experts said March 26 in a JR/Now webinar. All Oklahomans 16 or older are eligible to receive the vaccine beginning, as of March 29. As of March 26, nearly 1.5 million doses of vaccine had been given statewide and more than 320,000 of them in Oklahoma County, said Patrick McGough, executive director of the Oklahoma City-County Health Department. More than half of county residents 65 and older have had both shots, he said.
