What are Nepali youth thinking?

What are Nepali youth thinking?
My Republica
Nepal, May 16 -- The findings of the survey paint a rather somber picture. Of the 2,000 youth surveyed between 18 to 40 years of age, only around a third (34%) believe that the country is headed in the right direction. This is significantly less than a 2018 National Governance Survey that found 80 percent of respondents between 18 to 39 years of age considered the country to be heading in the right direction.
The COVID-19 pandemic has led to country-wide youth protests around crisis response and politics. There are reports that the youth have been disproportionately and severely affected by the pandemic. In this context, a recent survey on Youth Anxiety, Aspiration, and Activism aimed to gain better insights into the representation of youth interests in the Nepali society, politics, and economy from a policy perspective.

India: What we can learn from the farmers' protests

The “farm laws” introduce deregulation and facilitate large corporations into the sector with the stated intent of “modernising systems” and “helping farmers realise better prices”.
The laws weaken state control over pricing and sale of food crops by allowing corporate retailers to directly buy from and enter into pre-agreed contracts with farmers, bypassing government marketing boards set up to ensure fair prices. They deregulate crop storage by allowing private traders to stockpile and removing restrictions meant to avoid speculation and inflation.
Farmers’ agitation against the three anti-farmer and pro-corporation laws crossed the 100-day mark in early March. In a definitive moment of the resistance, when the Modi government blocked peaceful marches to New Delhi by digging trenches and fixing nails and concertina wires, farmers responded by planting flowers and sowing crops, demonstrating a firm resilience in the face of repression.

Hyderabad: MIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said on Tuesday that every downtrodden person in the country wants that his voice should be heard and his problems attended to, but he feels suffocated from the form of majoritarian democracy.
“If a majoritarian form of democracy continued we would not be able to fulfill the dreams held by our freedom fighters. We have to revive and strengthen participative democracy,” Owaisi said while addressing AIMIM's 63rd revival day celebrations at the party headquarters Darussalam.
