Publix, the most prominent private partner in Florida’s vaccine distribution network, strongly disputed a news report insinuating the company had been allowed to operate with little oversight.
The company’s corporate office offered strong words in response to a Miami Herald report regarding the supermarket’s COVID-19 vaccination program.
“From the beginning of the vaccination rollout at Publix pharmacies, Publix has been in direct and constant contact with the state, requesting direction and frequently detailing vaccination plans at our stores,” reads a statement from the Lakeland-based grocery chain.

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - A driver who police say fled a traffic stop after injuring a deputy in Charlotte County early this morning was injured himself when his vehicle jumped a canal and crashed in North Port, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The suspect, identified by police as 55-year-old Glen Alonzo Steele of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, was stopped for a broken tail light at Tamiami Trail and Adalia Terrace in Port Charlotte shortly after 1:30 a.m. Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell said the deputy, Cpl. Brad Combs, determined Steele had an outstanding warrant for failing to appear on a 2020 traffic charge.

Cold case investigators are taking a closer look at the life of Roland Davis, Sr., who is currently on death row for the murder of an Ohio woman — he’s also the man accused of killing Sharon Gill in Charlotte County.
Krista Gill will always remember the name Roland Davis. He’s the man accused of taking her mom away from her when she was just 18 years old. Case detectives made the connection back in November 2020 after 30 years of no one held responsible.
“I think the biggest feeling for me that I dealt with, I was just happy to know that he was already behind bars, and he wasn’t able to hurt or do this to another family,” Krista said.
