Eight Cherokee veterans — who served during the Vietnam War —  visited the World War I Memorial, the World War II Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial and the Korean War Memorial on Tuesday. The Cherokee veterans are in the nation’s capital city as part of the 10th Cherokee Warrior Flight. The Cherokee Nation funds the flight for Cherokee veterans to see the national war memorials erected in their honor in Washington, D.C.

The instructor had a medical evaluation four months before the June 2022 incident.

A flight instructor died shortly after takeoff and the other man in the cockpit thought he was "just pretending to take a nap" as a joke.

The Cherokee Nation continues work on a new housing project for veterans, and on Thursday honored 14 veterans with a trip to see the national war memorials erected in their honor.

The Cherokee Nation celebrated 14 veterans with a send-off banquet for its seventh Cherokee Warrior Flight on Nov. 9 at the Cherokee Casino and Hotel West Siloam Springs.
