Village officials expressed their appreciation to St. Clairsville for the cruiser and to Ed Tacosik of Logotek who put decals on the vehicle for free. BELMONT Village Council made plans to reopen the Belmont Gymnasium for rentals beginning in April and to hold the annual Easter egg hunt and Memorial Day parade and services in the village. The Belmont Gym, which for years has been a popular site for a variety of gatherings and events and a regular source of income for the village, has been closed for public use since early 2020 due to the coronovirus outbreak. ....
February 20, 2021 52-year-old Tracy Williams of Flora was cited by Illinois State Police following an accident on the eastbound entrance ramp of I-64 in southern Wayne County Friday afternoon. Police said Williams was southbound on Route 45 attempting to turn onto the ramp and hit a vehicle head-on, driven by 87-year-old James Newman of Enfield, who was northbound on Route 45. Newman was not hurt, along with two passengers in Williams’ vehicle. Williams was flown to a regional hospital for treatment of injuries, and cited for failure to yield the right of way while turning left. Fairfield firemen responded to a house fire Thursday night at 810 George Street. Chief Andrew Miller said firemen responded shortly before 7:30 p.m. Thursday and found fire showing from the roof and attic area. No one was home when the fire started, and the fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes. There was extensive fire and water damage to the residence. ....

Pending approval to clear final budget hurdles in the township s upcoming annual budget, Chief Andrew Miller said a grueling, three-year task of upgrading the department s computer servers and other preparations is largely done and they are in place to roll out fully equipped patrols in a matter of weeks after body cameras are approved for purchase. He requested about $96,000 in capital expenditure from the 2020-21 budget, scheduled to be introduced during the first week of March. That should cover the purchase of 90 bodycams, enough to equip all patrols and supervisors in the field. ....
