Art Acevedo joined the Aurora Police Department in December 2022 and will leave Jan. 22, according to a city news release. He is resigning to return to Texas and spend time with his family, the city news release said.
Aurora Police Department interim Chief Art Acevedo is resigning his position after just over one year leading the police department, the city announced Tuesday.
“That’s really scraping the bottom of the barrel,” said Wayne Cascio, an industrial psychologist and economist at the University of Colorado Denver, who pioneered the test-scoring system used by the department today. “They’re barely qualified to be able to get approved…You’re really handcuffing the department in so many ways.”
Both teens face attempted murder charges related to the shootout with officers on November 30 in a parking lot near 6th and Peoria.
